About the Event

The Karl Le Fong Gathering is for invited magicians only. If you’re reading this, then those who sent you the link know you as a student of close up magic, someone who can do some pretty cool stuff with cards, coins and other small objects and someone who probably understands the reference in the gathering’s title.

If you have stumbled upon this site and think you fit that description then you will need to get yourself an invite. You can find out how to do that by clicking HERE.

Essentially, The Karl Le Fong Gathering is a day-long session interrupted by A special guest. What it is not is a convention. We won’t have lectures – we’ll have talks. These talks may last an hour or two, they may only last 20 minutes. Also, the speakers may sell things after their talks, but then they may not. That’s purely up to the individual speakers.

Hosts

Peter McLanachan

Peter is a relatively unknown Scottish cardman who spent some of his formative years in magic learning from some of the best during regular meet ups in Tam Shepherd’s. It is these get togethers that inspired Peter to create the Karl Le Fong Gathering. Peter keeps Neil around so he’s got someone to share a room with each Gathering.

Neil Stirton

Neil is a semi-professional magician based in London. Having been creating, writing, and performing for over 20 years, you'd think he'd be better by now. Ultimately, he only does it for the fame, fortune, and women, and doesn't practice nearly as much as he should. Still, Peter keeps him around so he has someone to share a room with at each KLFG.

How to attend

Thank you for your interest in our event! The Karl Le Fong Gathering is quickly becoming one of the most talked about events on the UK magic calendar and we’re thrilled that interest is growing.

As a result, we have a few ground rules we wish to make everyone aware of in the hope that this sets out the process for potential new attendees:

FAQ

How can I learn more?
Please use the contact form below to let us know of your interest for the event. From there you can request to be added to our mailing list, ask Peter and Neil any questions about the event itself or what is expected.
What’s included in the ticket price?
You will gain access to the event itself, and a discount code for the hotel where the event is hosted. You will also be eligible for the extra goodies that attendees benefit from as well as details of the “pre-event” event that happens the day before.
Who is the event intended for?
The Karl Le Fong Gathering is for serious students of card and close-up magic. Beginners are very welcome and we would love to support your application; you’ll find most of the attendees are intermediate to advanced in technical skills and experience level. We strive to build a friendly and supportive atmosphere, and expect every who attends to enter into that spirit of showing and sharing.
How can I buy a ticket?
Before you can buy a ticket you should be nominated by an existing attendee of KLFG. There’s a short audition process, and after being given the go-ahead you’ll be sent the link to purchase your ticket. Tickets can be purchased via Paypal or by cash on the day.
But I don’t know any attendees.
If you have found this website, there’s a very good chance you have been sent here by someone who has attended previously. On the small chance that you have stumbled over this site by accident and think the Gathering is up your street, then fill out the contact form and we will let you know what is expected.
Notice for new attendees.
In advance of purchasing a ticket, we ask all new attendees to send us a short video of a trick they would perform that best represents their standard of magic. It doesn't have to be long, or knuckle busting - just something you can perform well and lasts only a few minutes.
On the day itself, after the welcome and introduction we ask new attendees to perform a quick trick for everyone - it doesn't have to be the same trick submitted by video, but something that lasts around 5 minutes and would be suitable for the audience. We think this is a great way to allow the other guests to know you a little better; the bar is set purposely high, but everyone there wants to support you to get over it! Following the performance, you'll be able to kick back and relax and enjoy everything that the day has to offer.
